Our Approach

Our teaching philosophy

Six principles that guide how our faculty teaches every student, in every class.

01

Individual Learning

Every student learns differently. Our teachers begin by understanding each student's pace, prior knowledge, and learning style — then tailor every lesson accordingly. There is no single method applied to all.

02

Positive Reinforcement

Progress happens when students feel safe to make mistakes. Our teachers create an environment of encouragement — where correct recitation is celebrated and errors are corrected with kindness, not criticism.

03

Qur'an with Understanding

Recitation is the foundation, but understanding deepens the relationship. Our teachers connect verses to their meanings, helping students appreciate what they are reading and why it matters.

04

Respect in Every Interaction

The relationship between teacher and student carries great weight in Islam. Our teachers uphold the highest standards of respect — for the student, for the parent, and for the sacred knowledge being transmitted.

05

Consistency Over Speed

Sustainable learning is built on consistency. Our teachers set a realistic pace that students can maintain week after week — prioritising long-term retention over short-term progress that does not last.

06

Character Development

Quran education is not only about recitation. Our teachers model Islamic character in every session — punctuality, humility, gratitude, and sincerity — allowing students to learn by example as much as instruction.

Faculty FAQ

Questions about our teachers

How do you select your teachers?

Every teacher at Riwaq al-Ilm holds a degree from Al-Azhar University in Cairo — the world's oldest and most respected institution for Quranic and Islamic sciences. Beyond credentials, we evaluate teaching ability, patience, communication style, and track record with students across age groups.

Can I request a female teacher?

Yes, always. We have experienced female teachers available for all programs. If you prefer a female teacher — whether for yourself, your daughter, or any family member — just indicate that in your free trial form. It's guaranteed, not just available on request.

What if I want to change my teacher after the trial?

No problem at all. Teacher fit is important, and we'd rather make a change than have a student disengage. Just reach out to our team after your trial session and we'll arrange an alternative match.

Do the teachers speak English?

Yes. All of our teachers are conversant in English, and many are fluent. Classes are conducted in English with Quranic Arabic instruction woven in. We also have teachers who speak Arabic, Urdu, and other languages if preferred.

How does teacher matching work?

After you book a free trial, we match you based on the student's age, program, and any teacher preference you share. The first session lets the teacher assess the student's level and learning style. If the fit is right, you continue. If not, we find a better match — no friction.

Are classes recorded?

Classes are not recorded by default. Sessions are conducted live, one-on-one, to maintain a focused and personal learning environment. If you have a specific need — such as a parent review — please speak to our admissions team and we will advise on options.

Al-Azhar Trained · Male & Female Teachers · All Ages Welcome

Still unsure which teacher is right for your family?

Our admissions team will recommend the best teacher based on your child’s age, schedule, goals, and learning style — at no cost and with no commitment.
