Building Stronger Connections with the Quran Through Trusted Online Education
Riwaq al-Ilm exists to help children, teens, adults, and families build confidence, consistency, and a lifelong relationship with the Quran through structured, personalized online learning with qualified teachers.
Our Journey Began with a Simple Vision
Many Muslim families in the United States face the same challenge: they want authentic Quran education for their children, but the local options are limited — group halaqas with little individual attention, unverified teachers, or schedules that don’t fit modern family life.
Riwaq al-Ilm was established to solve exactly that. We set out to make authentic, structured Quran education accessible to every Muslim family — not by cutting corners, but by connecting families with genuinely qualified teachers through a format that works: private, one-on-one, online sessions with Al-Azhar-trained scholars.
The name Riwaq al-Ilm (رواق العلم) means “The Portico of Knowledge” — a reference to the shaded colonnades of Al-Azhar where scholars have gathered to teach and learn for over a thousand years. That spirit of patient, principled scholarship is what we bring to every session.
“The Portico of Knowledge” — where scholars gather to teach, and students come to learn, in the tradition of Al-Azhar.
Our Mission & Vision
To provide high-quality online Quran education that nurtures faith, knowledge, and character while helping every student build a lasting relationship with the Quran.
To become one of the most trusted online Quran education academies recognized for authentic Islamic values, academic excellence, and student-centered learning.
Our Core Values
Six principles that guide how we teach, communicate, and serve every family in our community.
Authenticity
Grounded in authentic Islamic knowledge and respectful teaching passed down through verified scholarly chains.
Excellence
Continuous improvement in teaching quality, curriculum, and student experience — never settling for good enough.
Compassion
Every student deserves patience, encouragement, and understanding. Learning flourishes in a supportive environment.
Integrity
Professionalism, honesty, and transparency — in how we teach, communicate, and support every family.
Consistency
Small, consistent progress leads to lasting success. We build habits, not just skills.
Community
Supporting families throughout their entire Quran learning journey — from first lesson to final Khatm.
Our Teaching Methodology
Every student who joins Riwaq al-Ilm goes through a structured four-stage process designed to ensure the right foundation, the right pace, and measurable progress from the very first session.
We use the traditional talaqqi method — direct oral transmission from teacher to student, exactly as the Quran has been taught since the time of the Prophet ﷺ — adapted thoughtfully for the online learning environment.
Experience It FreeLearning Assessment
We begin every journey by understanding where the student is — their current recitation level, goals, schedule, and any prior Quran education. No assumptions, no one-size approach.
Personalized Learning Plan
Lessons are tailored to the student's age, experience, and objectives. A child building foundational reading receives a different plan than a teenager pursuing Hifz or an adult learning tajweed.
Guided Learning
Students receive structured, one-on-one instruction with regular encouragement and precise feedback. Our teachers use the traditional talaqqi method — direct transmission, student imitates teacher — ensuring correct pronunciation from day one.
Continuous Progress
Progress is measured and communicated to parents after every session. Students and families experience measurable development through consistent learning, structured revision, and honest milestone tracking.
Why Al-Azhar Matters
Many of our teachers have studied at Al-Azhar University in Cairo or affiliated Islamic institutions. Al-Azhar — founded in 970 CE — is one of the world’s oldest continuously operating universities and the foremost center of Sunni Islamic scholarship.
A teacher trained at Al-Azhar has gone through a rigorous curriculum that ensures both deep Islamic knowledge and a disciplined approach to teaching the Quran — not just memorizing it, but understanding its recitation sciences, its meaning, and its proper transmission.
Note: We do not claim affiliation with or endorsement by Al-Azhar University. We refer to it as the educational institution from which our teachers have graduated.
Quranic Sciences
Tajweed, recitation styles (qira'at), and memorization methodology.
Arabic Language
Classical Arabic grammar (nahw), morphology (sarf), and rhetoric.
Hadith Studies
Prophetic traditions — their chains, authentication, and application.
Islamic Theology
Foundational beliefs ('aqeedah) and Islamic legal reasoning.
Student-Centered Learning
We don’t teach Quran the same way to a 5-year-old and a 40-year-old. Each group has a tailored approach built around their world.
Kids
Fun, engaging, confidence-building lessons designed to spark a genuine love for the Quran from the earliest years.
Teens
Structured learning that supports growth, accountability, and consistency through a stage of life full of competing demands.
Adults
Flexible lessons designed around personal goals and schedules — whether starting from scratch or refining tajweed.
Families
A supportive environment that makes Quran a part of family life — building a shared habit and shared love.
Meet Our Teachers
Every teacher is selected for their Quranic knowledge, teaching ability, and character — not just their credentials.

All our teachers hold degrees from Al-Azhar University or affiliated institutions. Beyond credentials, we assess their ability to teach — specifically their patience, communication skills, and experience working with the age group they will teach. Every teacher completes a structured onboarding and assessment before teaching any students.
All classes are private and one-on-one. Your child will never share a session with another student. This ensures the teacher's full attention, immediate correction of errors, and a learning pace tailored entirely to your child.
Life happens. We ask for at least a few hours notice before canceling so the teacher can adjust their schedule. Makeup classes can be arranged depending on teacher availability. We recommend maintaining a consistent schedule — gaps slow progress significantly.
Absolutely. We have both a dedicated Adult Quran Program and a Sisters Quran Program designed for learners at any level — including complete beginners. Many of our adult students began with no prior Arabic knowledge and are now reading Quran with proper tajweed.
