Frequently Asked Questions
What is Tajweed?
Tajweed (تجويد) is the set of rules governing correct pronunciation and recitation of the Quran. It covers how each Arabic letter is articulated, how letters interact with each other, and how long vowels are extended. Applying Tajweed preserves the Quran exactly as it was revealed and transmitted through the Prophet ﷺ.
Is Tajweed obligatory?
The majority of Islamic scholars hold that reciting the Quran with Tajweed is obligatory (wajib) when reciting aloud and in prayer, and recommended in all recitation. Deliberate errors that change meaning are considered a serious matter. Our teachers follow mainstream Sunni scholarly consensus.
Do I need to know Arabic to start Tajweed?
You need to be able to read Arabic letters, but you don't need to understand their meaning. If you can't read Arabic yet, we recommend starting with our Quran reading program first, then moving into dedicated Tajweed study.
How long does it take to learn Tajweed?
A structured foundation covering the major rules takes 6–12 months of regular practice. Mastery is a lifelong pursuit, but you'll see measurable improvement in pronunciation within weeks of consistent sessions.
What if I've been reciting incorrectly for years?
This is very common. Long-held habits take more deliberate effort to correct, but our teachers are experienced in identifying and addressing ingrained errors. It's never too late to recite correctly.
Do you offer Tajweed classes for children?
Yes. We introduce Tajweed foundations from the beginning for children — ensuring correct habits form early. Children who start young typically have a significant long-term advantage in recitation quality.
